Sharjah: Students at Sharjah’s three charity schools can now study in the cool and quiet environment after an air-conditioning firm replaced 231 old and noisy units free of charge.
With several of the existing units in the schools more than two decades old, many of the classrooms were too hot.
Children often found it difficult to hear their teachers over the buzz of noisy AC units.
Over the course of a week, technicians from air-conditioning company Taqeef installed quieter and more powerful cooling units.
Pupils, who range from grade one to high school level, say they can feel the difference.
“Walking into a cool class in the morning feels great,” said Nada Muammar, a grade 4 student at the Sharjah Girls School. “It’s much easier to focus and learn now.”
Sharjah Girls School music teacher Rania Baghdadi, commented: “Finally, I can hear these wonderful children sing. These new units really will revolutionise my music lessons.”
Taqeef now has plans to donate an additional 144 units to improve 35 classrooms at the Ajman Boys and Girls School, benefiting a further 2,400 students.
“Through this initiative with the National Charity Schools in Sharjah, we aim to improve the working environment for the children,” said Tariq Al Ghussein, chief executive of Taqeef.
Founded in 1972, Taqeef claims to be the originator of desert cooling systems in the UAE.
