Dubai: The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) has teamed up with Dubai Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation (AMAF) to provide scholarships to orphaned children.

The partnership with UOWD will support young people who may not have had the best start in life by helping them pursue their higher education.

The new partnership will see UOWD award full scholarships to two children in the care of AMAF on an annual basis. Alongside this, all minors supported by AMAF, as well as the Foundation’s staff, will benefit from discounted fees on any programme of study at UOWD, subject to meeting university entry criteria.

Tayeb Al Rais, Secretary-General of Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation, stressed the importance of pursuing higher education, saying: “Education is inevitably linked to a child’s overall development and serving the best interests of children will eventually result in serving the best interests of all humanity.”

Professor Trevor Spedding, President of UOWD, said, “Supporting children from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue higher education is core to this commitment as it not only provides them with the academic background they need to develop professionally but engages them in a vibrant, multicultural community, which is equally critical to their personal and social development.”
