Dubai: Fatoom and Rashood have got Gulf News’ print and online readers rushing to their history books, in an attempt to win a quiz competition about the UAE, ahead of the country’s National Day.

Every alternate day, Rashood poses a new question related to UAE’s history or culture in the newspaper and on Facebook. If readers are unable to guess, they can look out for Fatoom, who provides a helpful clue.

Whenever a question is up, a deluge of responses pours in almost instantaneously.

The first question posed in the series asked readers the name that was used to refer to the seven emirates before 1971. We received nearly 2,000 entries through email and Facebook of which 40 responses or just 2 per cent of entries were incorrect.

The second question, which asked readers to identify the launch date of the Dubai Metro, received nearly 700 responses through email and 1,844 responses through Facebook.

Each question runs through a 24-hour cycle, and over the past week, readers have got the #GNNationalDay hashtag trending, thanks to their active participation in the contest.

Process

The quiz runs from November 18 to 29.

Our National Day character Rashood will pose a question, and the clue lies with Fatoom.

The right answer can either be emailed to readers@gulfnews.com or posted on our Facebook page: facebook.com/GulfNews.UAE

A reader with the right answer is picked by random draw at the end of each cycle, who will then become part of the Facebook UAE National Day Wall of Fame. He or she will be featured in the newspaper, too.

Finally, over the 11-day quiz period six readers will be part of a final pick, which will see three going home with an iPad each.
