Dubai: The Ministry of Education called on public schools across the UAE to cancel their morning assembly and reduce their activity classes for the first two weeks of the new academic year because of the heat.

The ministry announced that schools across the country have completed their preparation to welcome students for the 2015-16 academic year on August 30.

The ministry stressed the importance of considering the climate conditions in the country in order to ensure that it does not affect students’ welfare.

It called on schools to reduce their school day’s schedule by exempting the students from the morning assembly and by reducing activity classes. This way the students will be able to focus on core subjects and will not be worn out by the heat.

The ministry stressed the student’s well-being is a priority and a main objective it strives to fulfil.

This year the ministry adopted an eight-class study plan for students from grade six to 12.

The grade six to 12 students will have eight classes from Sunday to Wednesday but only seven classes on Thursday, the ministry said.

Students from grade one to five will have seven classes from Sunday to Thursday.

Classes this year were also reduced from 50 to 45 minutes with a five-minute break between each class.

The ministry stressed that it is confident its education and managerial staff will ensure a smooth academic year, adding that the teachers and principals of schools are vital in fulfilling the ministry’s objectives.

The ministry also said it values the input parents share with schools that help in building the students for the future.

The ministry says it takes all their suggestions into consideration and commends their efforts that aim to help schools become modern public schools.
