Dubai: Thousands of grade 10 Indian students in the UAE breathed a sigh of relief after learning that many of their schools received a 100 per cent passing rate on the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) exams, released on Thursday.

A total of 1.3 million students from around the world who go to schools that follow the CBSE curriculum took the 2015 grade 10 CBSE exams in March this year.

The academic areas are graded on a nine-point scale — A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2, D, E1 and E2. Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is then calculated based on the grades. A1 grades are given 10 points, A2 nine points, B1 eight points and so on.

Many Indian schools across the UAE secured a 100 per cent passing rate, with many students achieving a CGPA of 10 — and Indian High school was one of them.

“I was expecting to get a CGPA of 10. The exams were moderate, but Math was the hardest. The toughest subject to study was Social Studies because I had to study 12 chapters at one go,” said 16-year-old Nikhil Anu, an Indian High School student who wants to become an engineer.
