Dubai: A Dubai school teacher has been suspended by her employer, a Dubai school, after she complained to police and authorities of sexual harassment by a student.

The woman told Gulf News that she filed a report with Dubai Police, KHDA and the Ministry of Labour to complain of an instance of alleged improper conduct by one of her pupils.

The complainant said she filed her report with Dubai Police on February 29 and was informed that an investigation into her allegations is under way.

In a copy of her complaint, the teacher said she was “writing to report an event of sexual harassment that transpired on the 17th of January, 2016.”

The teacher said she has not received any written report by the school regarding the alleged incident.

In response, the school said in a statement to Gulf News that it moved on March 3 to remove the teacher from the classroom until a police probe is completed.

“In this case, the teacher was placed on indefinite suspension as of March 3, 2016, pending the outcome of the authorities’ investigation,” the school said. “There is no decision on compensation during this period pending the receipt of the authorities’ reports and other findings that may result from what that report indicates, the school stated.

“The contents of the report in combination with our obligation to conform to UAE labour laws will determine the next steps, and at this point it is premature to pass judgement on the matter.“
