Dubai: Job seekers need to constantly update their skills in order to be ‘employable’ in the fast-paced and fast-changing job market that is Dubai, academicians said in a recent Career Fair at Al Ghurair University.

“The mind-boggling pace of change in the contemporary world of work means knowledge and skills are becoming outdated more rapidly than before, and need to be continually refreshed, renewed, and replaced,” said Professor Abdul Rahim Mohammad Al Ameen, President of Al Ghurair University.

“This calls for a more focused attention on the currency of one’s skills, knowledge, and experience in order to be employable.”

Professor Mohammad Khalifa, Vice-President for Academic Affairs at the university, said education and career development go hand-in-hand and are keys to succeed in the present-day knowledge economies.

Panellists at the fair said sectors that are expected to generate jobs include oil, gas and petrochemicals, banking, construction, real estate, utilities, and logistics, among others.
