Dubai: The American University in the Emirates (AUE) presented full-tuition scholarships to 16 successful candidates, urging them to take the opportunity and adapt a leadership role that would help take their careers to the next level.

Described as the "new blood" by Prof. Muthanna G. Abdul Razzaq, president and chief executive of AUE, the scholars were chosen from a pool of 60-plus aspirants following a competitive criteria and in-depth screening.

They will start their chosen four-year bachelor degrees in the fall semester of 2016-2017, which marks the 10th anniversary since the AUE was established.

“We congratulate and wish you a great learning experience and every success in your future endeavours,” Abdul Razzaq said prior to handing out certificates and AUE pins to the enthusiastic group of girls and boys.

“We are confident of your dedication and commitment and encourage you to aim for greater heights.

“You are the new blood. Never stop thinking, think outside the box and always strive to be ‘A’ students,” he added.

"Flipped classrooms"

“At the AUE, we believe that teaching can also be fun and support the idea of ‘flipped classrooms’ where students gain first exposure to subject material outside of class rooms, via reading or high-tech lecture videos, and then implement the harder work of integrating that knowledge through discussion or debates.

“We also need interaction and co-operation and are even prepared to offer you higher scholarships following your successful graduation. That’s a promise.”

Since its inception the AUE has strived to enhance its leading role in supporting and motivating students with the best grades to pursue their higher education in the most current and unique programs in the UAE and the GCC region as a whole, meeting the needs of the constantly developing markets in their specializations

Abdul Razzaq stressed that the AUE’s mission abides by the formation of the strong and unique government under the leadership of His Highness The President Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, which the AUE strives to adopt the same principles in graduating leaders and innovators who will make a difference in their fields and contribute to the betterment of society.

“There is no honour greater than the honour of receiving a scholarship,” said Professor Nabeel Jurdi, Vice President for Research Advancement.

“But with this scholarship comes a responsibility to prove that you are a leader. This is a first step towards a higher career.

“Look with pride at what you hope to achieve and walk with your heads high.”
