Abu Dhabi: In a milestone for the UAE’s education sector, Khalifa University has been ranked among the top 100 universities in the world under 50 years old, becoming the youngest university in the world to make the list.

The rankings are compiled by QS, an internationally recognised organisation that rates universities across the world. The top 100 universities under 50 years old recognises the fastest growing universities, with Khalifa University being ranked among the 71-80 bracket, a major achievement for the university after opening only eight years ago.

Dr Tod Laursen, president of Khalifa University, said the university was honoured to be named on the list, and would continue to look to the future for more success.

“We have accomplished so much in eight years, it’s exciting to imagine what we can achieve in the next eight [years],” he said.

“Right now our students are regularly making their mark in competitions and challenges, as well as at conferences. We are now graduating students with PhDs, masters and bachelors across a wide spectrum of science, engineering, and technology disciplines,” he added.

Dr Arif Sultan Al Hammadi, Khalifa University’s Executive Vice-President, echoed similar sentiments.

“Khalifa University has achieved a number of important milestones and initiatives, including the introduction of a number of graduate programmes and the establishment of state-of-the-art research centres,” he said.

Al Hammadi added that the university continues to have big goals. “We aspire to be a leader in higher education in the UAE and the region.”

By making the top 100 under 50 rankings list, Khalifa University becomes the fourth UAE-based institution to do so, joining American University of Sharjah, UAE University, and American University in Dubai.
