Abu Dhabi: Around 500 students have taken advantage of the Summer Abroad Programme during the 2015-2015 academic school year, the Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) announced today (Tuesday).
A grant from His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of the Council, the five-week programme includes Adec-approved educational, cultural and entertainment activities.
This year, the top performing pupils were sent to five countries. Male students flew to Australia, UK, USA and Canada, while 160 male and female pupils studied in Ireland. They were accompanied by 60 chaperones whose role was to report to the Adec on a weekly basis.
The 10th summer abroad batch of students were trained in leadership and self-reliance in addition to getting exposed to a variety of new cultures.
A total number of 60 chaperons accompanied the students.
“The programme will help our students improve their academic and personal experience and skills. It will teach them how to become self-dependent, help enhance their English language, leadership skills, and encourage them to closely interact with other cultures and become exposed to various educational opportunities,” Ahmad Al Shamsi, Adec’s General Services Division Manager and Project Manager, said.
Male students will reside among carefully selected host families in order to improve their English language skills through immersion into the local community of the country of destination, while female students will reside in the university campuses at their chosen host city.
