Abu Dhabi: Around 1,928 new students started classes on Sunday at Zayed University (ZU) in both the Abu Dhabi and Dubai campuses.

ZU earlier welcomed new students in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai campuses during the academic orientation week event that was held last week.

Parents and guardians were also welcomed at the two-day event, which targeted all new students joining the university this year to become acquainted with the various colleges, as well as the university’s mission, regulations, majors, syllabus and cultural activities.

“As a new student, you will definitely face some academic challenges and obstacles that can be quite demanding; however, you are expected to take responsibility for your own learning and manage your workload. The process requires self-motivation, determination and dedication,” said Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development and President of ZU.

During the orientation, Dr Marilyn Roberts, Acting Provost, also pointed out that academic advising is the very core of successful institutional efforts to educate and retain students.

“Academic advising is strongly encouraged and recommended during your tenure at ZU. There are enormous opportunities to learn strategies that can develop your academic skills and personal attributes needed to be successful in your college at the university,” Dr Marilyn advised students.
