Dubai: As Valentine’s Day surprises go, this was a sheer sparkle. Just when Rebecca Johnston, a Radio 2 listener, thought she had missed the Diamond Dig, a gold and jewellery hunt organised by the radio channel, news of a magical win came her way.
Nine months pregnant, Johnston didn’t turn up for the competition at the Le Royal Meridien Beach Resort last week because she went into labour. But what she didn’t know was that Kenny and Daisy, the hosts of the channel’s breakfast show, had one of their representatives hunt on Johnston’s behalf for the treasure hidden on the beach. And as luck would have it, Johnston received two bundles of joy – her baby boy and a Mirage jewellery set, the competition prize.
Prizes galore
A total of 16 teams participated in the hunt for gold and jewellery worth Dh60,000 that was buried in the sand. Everyone was a winner walking away with Liali Jewellery sets and gift vouchers from Le Royal Meridien Beach Resort and Spa. The prizes included a grand prize - an Affair Dome ring worth Dh23,000 won by Wilma Rouse - and four Mirage sets.
