Sharjah: The new Khor Fakkan Corniche will come alive on Friday as the Khor Fakkan Municipality hosts celebrations for the UAE’s 45th National Day with a variety of traditional activities, cultural and artistic shows and heritage events for its residents and visitors from 4.30pm to 10pm.
The celebrations come ahead of the National Day on December 2.
Friday’s main performance will be an air show by a group of Emirati jet fighter pilots, who will colour the skies in colours of the UAE’s flag in a series of aerial displays. Skydivers from the Emirates Skydiving Group will parachute to the Corniche, and the Sharjah Marine Sports Club will pay tribute to the UAE’s heritage of marine sports in a performance.
Students from Abdullah Bin Mubarak School will present an operetta, while the Omama Bint Abi Talib School for Girls will give a musical performance, present traditional games and folklore songs. The Khor Fakkan School will participate with a musical military parade, while the Children’s Centre will perform patriotic songs.
Other events in the programme will include poetry recitals by poets Ahmad Al Zarouni and Salem Al Kaabi and performance by folk bands, most notably the Al Mazyoud Band, which will perform a variety of national songs, along with exciting circus and light shows.
“The UAE’s National Day is an occasion of pride for every Emirati, and for the seven united emirates within this great nation whose citizens have worked together as one under one leadership, to take their country to greater heights, elevating our status on the global stage,” said Tareq Al Naqbi, director of Sharjah Media Centre and deputy chairman of the Higher Committee of National Day Celebrations in Sharjah.
The event will also feature children’s activities in Children’s City on the Khor Fakkan Corniche. It will include educational workshops and activity corners, one of which is the ‘printing corner’ where children will have their fingerprints printed on national slogans. Other corners will include one for painting the UAE flag, and another designated for sand sculpting where children will carve out the country’s landmarks on the sand. This workshop will be organised in cooperation with the Sharjah Art Institute.
