Sharjah: The body of a 40-year-old Indian worker was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his accommodation in Al Saja’a area in Sharjah on Monday night, a police official told Gulf News.

The worker is believed to have committed suicide using a plastic rope, the official said.

His Asian roommates told police they tried to lift the man’s body when they saw it in an attempt to save his life. But their attempts were in vain as he was already dead.

Police and forensic teams went to the scene after receiving information about the incident. They removed the victim’s body and transferred it to the forensic laboratory for an autopsy.

The official added that fingerprints and other details were taken from the scene to investigate the incident but so far they do not suspect anyone else was involved in the incident.

Police have transferred the case to the Public Prosecution.

The official warned the public, especially workers, to stop thinking about ending their lives, stressing that it is a criminal act in addition to being against the teachings of Islam. He urged people to be patient and to seek advice from religious scholars whenever they have problems.
