Ras Al Khaimah: A 62-year-old woman left fighting for her life in hospital for 11 days after being deliberately run over in Ras Al Khaimah has died.

The woman died on Tuesday, an official at Ras Al Khaimah Police told Gulf News

She died in the ICU of Sqar hospital in Ras Al Khaimah after she was run over by an Arab man who authorities say intentionally hit her in front of her house.

The 25-year-old suspect was arrested a short time after the incident happened.

Police said the incident occurred as a result of a dispute, before the suspect fled the scene.

Lieutenant Colonel Waleed Kanfish, director of Al Ma’moura police station, said the police operation room received a call on Thursday at 11 am saying an elderly woman had been run over and has been admitted to the Sqar hospital in a serious condition.

Lt.Col. Kanfish described the situation as “stripped of mercy”, especially as the incident occurred dur-ing Ramadan.

Police said the suspect went to the woman’s house and became involved in a verbal argument. Then it turned violent and the suspect smashed a vehicle parked in front of the woman’s house. The woman came out and asked him to stop smashing the vehicle and calm down. The man then drove his vehicle towards the elderly woman and hit her several times, causing severe injuries.

Police found the suspect and arrested him despite violent resistance, which involved sharp weapons.

Police investigations revealed that the suspect has a criminal record.
