Abu Dhabi: The verdict in the case of the Reem Island murder will be heard at 3pm on Monday at the Federal Supreme Court.

Accused of murdering kindergarten teacher Ibolya Ryan and planting a simple bomb outside an Egyptian-American doctor’s home, 30-year-old Ala’a Al Hashemi will finally learn her fate.

Ala’a alleged suffering from insanity since she was a child and, upon undergoing a medical assessment while in prison, experts deduced that she was aware of her actions on the night of the murder.

Despite this, her lawyer uncovered the details of the medical report which showed that Ala’a was diagnosed with schizophrenia and mental illnesses.

Ibolya Ryan left behind three children. Ala’a’s husband is currently detained pending charges of terrorism.

Ala’a was reportedly found to have been engaging in online terrorism activities and funding illegal organisations.

The suspect was identified within 24 hours after the crime and apprehended within the next 24 hours. According to Sharia, Ala’a’s lawyer argued, at least two witnesses who can definitely identify the suspect are needed to testify in court for the murder charge to be verified.

However, because the Al Reem murderer had concealed her identity using an abaya and niqab (face covering), it was impossible for the witnesses who gave their testimonies in court to do so.
