Dubai: Police have arrested two jobless Pakistani men posing as police officers who subjected a woman and child to robbery at knifepoint in their Dubai home.

The incident took place in the Al Quoz area at 12pm on Thursday, said a senior police official when two men knocked on the woman’s door and showed a police ID card which they did not let her see properly.

Brigadier Khalil Al Mansouri, Director of the Criminal and Investigation Department (CID) at Dubai police, said yesterday the two men entered the house of an Indian family in Dubai and threatened the mother and her child who were home alone.

The two men said that they were there to inspect the house, asking the woman to bring all the money or jewellery she had.

“The woman shouted at them saying that police would never do that. Then the accused threatened the woman with knives so she gave them all her gold and a bag where she kept Dh5,000,” said Lt Colonel Ahmad Humaid Al Merri, Director of Criminal Investigations Division at Dubai Police.

He said the two men also took the passports of the family members.

“The accused spotted the daughter coming out of the room so they tried to take by force the gold bangles from her arm and they even tried to cut them using the knife.

“The mother begged them not to do this and she removed the bangles from her daughter’s hand using soap and water and gave them to the men,” he said.

The thieves took jewellery worth Dh20,000 in addition to Dh5,000 in cash.

“In less than five hours, police arrested the two men in their accommodation in Jebel Ali area,” Brigadier Al Mansouri said.

Police received a call from an Indian woman who was very scared, saying two men claiming to be CID officials entered her house and threatened her and her two-year-old daughter.

“Our CID team, accompanied by female police officers from the victim support department at Dubai police, rushed to the building where the woman lives with her daughter and husband.

“The woman was alone with her daughter. The child was crying hysterically because the thieves had tried to cut the golden bangles from her arms using a sharp knife,” he said.

Lt Col Al Merri said the CID team questioned the watchman in the building and the salesman in the supermarket located in the same building.

“Our information led us to two Pakistani men who worked for a construction company in Jebel Ali.”

He added that the two men were arrested in their accommodation with the stolen money and gold in addition to the passports.

Brig Al Mansouri added that the stolen money, gold and passports were found.

“The case has been transferred to public prosecution for more investigation,” he said.
