Ras Al Khaimah: Police on Sunday arrested two men suspected of robbing a jewellery shop in Al Nakheel area in Ras Al Khaimah, an official said.

The two African suspects were arrested within 48 hours of the crime.

The incident took place after midnight on Thursday and the suspects stole gold jewellery worth Dh700,000 kept in glass display counters in addition to Dh50,000 cash.

Brigadier Abdullah Al Munkis, director of Criminal and Investigation Department (CID) at Ras Al Khaimah Police, said the police reached the scene after warning alarm went off at police operations room. The alarm went off when the suspects entered the shop after breaking the door. They collected the gold and cash and escaped quickly. All jewellery stores, money exchanges and banks in Ras Al Khaimah are linked to the police operations room.

One suspect stood outside the shop to keep watch while his accomplice collected several pieces of jewellery, including necklaces and rings.

The police identified one of the suspects and arrested him from another emirate. During interrogation, he informed the police about his accomplice and he was also arrested.
