Sharjah: Sharjah Police have urged people not to leave valuables in their cars after arresting three suspects who allegedly broke into dozens of vehicles.

The three men committed a series of car break-ins in different residential areas, police said on Tuesday.

Owners of up to 50 vehicles reported damage to their cars and in some cases valuables were stolen. The gang forced windows open to break into the cars, leaving little evidence of the break-ins. Confused car owners then later discovered cash and other items had been stolen from their vehicles.

The thieves, all Bangladeshi, ere divided into groups and each group worked separately.

Detectives arrested the suspects after receiving reports from car owners about the burglaries.

After their arrest, the suspects admitted they stole contents from dozens of cars.

The victims had reported losing valuables and documents kept in locked vehicles. Most of them had parked their cars in sandy areas or outside their villas.

Sharjah Police arrested the culprits and referred them to the public prosecution for further action.

One of the victims was an Indian man, identified as S.D., who stayed in a villa in Sharqan area of Sharjah.

He told Gulf News that he did not keep anything valuable inside his car. One morning he found his Pajero was damaged while his neighbour had lost a passport, identification papers and a chequebook and other valuable items. He said on the night of September 22, seven cars were broken into and the victims filed a complaint with Wasit police station.

Sharjah Police, meanwhile, advised people not “not leave any valuables in their cars, even small coins, because it could tempt those who have weak souls”.

Sharjah Police urged residents to report such crimes to 999,901 or the toll-free number Najeed 800151.
