Dubai: Three people implicated in hacking into the system of a UAE government entity by stealing usernames and passwords of employees were arrested by Dubai Police.

One of the suspects worked in the government entity affected by the hacking, and he was the one who supplied the others with the log-in data.

The main suspect, A.Q.S., had a paper with the employees’ usernames and passwords that were used to conduct unauthorised transactions through the entity’s system, Major General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant to the Dubai Police Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, said.

When police investigated the matter, it was found that the suspects abused loopholes in the entity’s security system to gain access and conduct their illegal transactions.

The three have been transferred to the public prosecution, following their confessions.

Maj Gen Al Mansouri said that establishments need to secure their data and employees should be more careful with their personal information.

He added that people should report any suspicious activities to the authorities on 800 CID (800243).
