Sharjah: Police are searching for a woman who placed her newborn baby boy inside a handbag and fled from the hospital, an official at Sharjah Police told Gulf News.

The 39-year-old Egyptian woman fled from the hospital in Sharjah just a few days after delivery and police said she was staying in the country illegally.

The Egyptian woman had earlier tried to escape from her room at Al Qasimi Hospital as she could not prove her identity and failed to produce official documents as proof of residence. She was caught by hospital staff and placed under police guard.

During interrogation, the woman told the police that her husband had left the UAE a few months ago and that she had not heard from him since he left.

After a few days, the woman managed to escape from the hospital. She was wearing a hijab, with her child inside a handbag when she ran away from hospital.

The woman’s escape was traced through surveillance cameras. Police from Al Hira station are searching for the woman.
