Sharjah:

Sharjah Police have warned residents against the use of fireworks during holiday periods, while urging them to take precautions against unauthorised usage by some people.

The police also cautioned the public against trade of fireworks and the widespread use of it by children.

The department emphasised the risk and fire hazard associated with children playing with fireworks.

Col Mohammad Rashid Al Byat, Director General of Police Support Services at Sharjah Police, warned traders against bringing in and selling firecrackers and fireworks, especially to children, because the items pose a threat to lives and public safety.

Sharjah Police has said it will continue its anti-firecracker drive and seize them.

He also said that families bear part of the responsibility in protecting their children. He urged parents to keep a watch on their children and prevent them from using such dangerous items to ensure their safety.

Col. Byat pointed out that the usage of fireworks decreased in Sharjah in recent times due to the police drive which led to the arrest of a number of traders.

He also mentioned that police had set a plan to tackle all negative phenomena in the emirate, including begging, gathering of youth and vendors, etc.

Police have recently launched a campaign against this phenomena which succeeded in reducing their usage

He urged community members to immediately report any promotion or use of fireworks by calling the Operations Room on 901 or on the toll-free number (Najeed) 800151, via SMS 7999, email najeed@shjpolice.gov.ae or log on to www.shjpolice.gov.ae/najeed
