Sharjah: The Sharjah Police have warned the public against selling fireworks and crackers through social media.

Police discovered that some individuals had offered fireworks and crackers through Instagram and delivered the goods in a secret way.

The police have also warned residents against the use of fireworks during Ramadan and holidays, while urging them to take precautions against unauthorised use by some people.

The department reminded people about the risk and fire hazard associated with children playing with fireworks.

Police warned traders against bringing in and selling crackers and fireworks, especially to children, because the items posed a threat to lives and public safety.

A senior police officer said that families would have to bear the responsibility of protecting their children, and urged the parents to keep a watch on their children and prevent them from using such dangerous items.

The use of fireworks decreased in Sharjah in recent times due to the police drive which led to the arrest of a number of traders.

He also mentioned that police had set a plan to tackle all negative practises in the emirate, including begging, gathering of youth and vendors on public streets and squares.

The police urged community members to immediately report any promotion or use of fireworks by calling the Operations Room on 901 or on the toll-free number (Najeed) 800151, via SMS 7999, email najeed@shjpolice.gov.ae or on www.shjpolice.gov.ae/najeed
