Sharjah:  Police have launched a manhunt after two women entered a lady saloon in Al Nahda area and stole Dh18,000, police said on Sunday.

The unidentified suspects entered the saloon and one of them pretended to be municipality inspector and the other wanted manicure.

The saloon owner S.O. told Gulf News that the two suspects were Arab and one of them was wearing Hijab.

They spent around 40 minutes “inspecting” the premise, looking for CCTV cameras. The woman who pretend to be municipality inspector told the saloon owner that she had inspected another saloon located in Jamal Abdul Naser street and found that the owner had installed a small camera inside the Moroccan bath. Action was taken against the owner of that salon, the imposter said.

She claimed that the owner was jailed, fined aand would be deported from the country.

“They wanted to scare me to find out if there was a camera in the saloon or not. When they could not find a camera, the women started looking for money,” she said.

“At that time, a Filipina woman brought some products to the salon, I took out my bag from the washing machine. They saw me keeping the bag in the machine. One of them then asked me for manicure while the other stole the money. Soon after they ran out of the saloon. I was not aware of theft,” she said

After several hours, she discovered the theft when she opened her handbag. Following a complained at Al Buhairah police station, a team from Sharjah Police’s Criminal Investigation Department visited the salon. An officer said that a number of similar complaints were lodged with the police.
