Sharjah: The Sharjah Police arrested on Sunday a Bangladeshi man for illegally selling cheap international telephone calls made through the internet and hiding the equipment inside his house in the Sharjah Industrial Area.
The police had received a tip off that a Bangladeshi man had transformed his house into an illegal call centre and illegally breaking into telephone systems.
The police then located the house that was operating without licence from the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority. The house was raided and the suspect was arrested. Illegal telecommunications equipment discovered inside the house was confiscated, police said.
The suspect, identified as Rafiq A.A., admitted his crime and told police that he was making illegal phone calls through programs connected to a server.
He told police that he believed he had enough privacy in his home to carry out his illegal business.
Sharjah Police warned the public as well as owners of internet cafes not to violate the rules of the Telecommunications Regulatory Act. It also warned the public that they will be held responsible if they are caught making illegal phone calls.
