Sharjah: An Afghan robber, who bludgeoned a mother and her daughter, has been arrested by Sharjah Police.

The 32-year-old Afghan woman, identified as F.Kh., died in Al Qassimi Hospital after she and her nine-year-old daughter were brutally assaulted by a robber.

The Afghan woman and her daughter were assaulted with a metal bar in their house in Al Darari area of Sharjah.

The incident happened on July 20. when the robber broke into the house armed with the metal bar and demanded that the woman hand over all her belongings. But she made the mistake of shouting.

The police said they were notified about the incident on July 20 by the woman’s husband, who found her and their daughter lying in a pool of blood in their house. The police dispatched paramedics and police patrols to the site, and rushed the victims to Al Qasimi Hospital. The victims were admitted in the ICU and the mother died on August 8 while the daughter is still being treated for skull injuries.

The motive for the assault, according to the police, was robbery.

The suspect told police that he entered the house for the purpose of theft, but the attempt failed after he was surprised by the presence of the owners at home.

When the mother heard the sound of the door, she asked her daughter to open it, thinking it was her husband. But she was surprised to see a masked man holding a metal bar which sparked fear and made her scream.

The suspect hit the girl on her head. When the woman saw her daughter covered in blood she started shouting, seeking help from the neighbours.

Then the intruder hit her with the metal bar several times, which caused damage to her skull, police said.

The suspect managed to flee from the house as the mother and her daughter were shouting and seeking help.

The police launched a manhunt to nab the robber and managed to arrest him.

The suspect, identified as A.A.A., has been referred to the public prosecution for further action.
