Ras Al Khaimah: Six suspected drug dealers were arrested by Ras Al Khaimah Police after they allegedly resisted arrest violently using tear gas.
Officers said they found a large quantity of narcotic substances in the men's possession.
Four of the suspects are Emiratis, while two others are Arabs.
Hashish and other types of drugs were found in the possession of the suspects at the time of the arrests, said Colonel Adnan Ali Al Zaabi, director-general of Ras Al Khaimah Police’s Anti-Narcotics Department.
Authorities received information about illegal activities being carried out by three Emirati suspects who were promoting drugs to people in the emirate. The suspects had criminal records and stayed in another emirate.
Police arrested the three Emirati suspects when they agreed to meet an undercover officer. During the police raid, the suspects resisted arrest violently and used tear gas to escape. A number of policemen were injured in the operation.
During questioning, the Emirati suspects told the anti-narcotic police about their partners [an Emirati and two Arabs] who stayed in Sharjah and Ajman.
They have been arrested in cooperation with Sharjah and Ajman police. Police found hashish and other drugs in their possession at the time of the arrests. The case has been referred to the public prosecution.
Colonel Al Zaabi pointed out that drugs have a direct impact on the human mind, citing the need to focus on the 14-30 age group to make them aware of the consequences of addiction, as they can easily fall into the trap of drug dealers.
Col Al Zaabi lauded the cooperation of police departments in the country.
