Dubai: A 24-year-old traffic policeman was killed on Wednesday morning in a car accident while on duty. Police said his patrol car was crushed between two trucks on the far right of Emirates Road en route to Jebel Ali.
According to police reports, Sergeant Hayyan Adel Ali, who worked in the road security division at the Traffic Police, died on the spot. The sergeant was trying to escort a truck, which was carrying pebbles used to make asphalt, to a stop area when another truck collided into the rear end of his patrol car. The sergeant’s car was subsequently pushed into the back end the truck he was escorting, killing him instantly. The truck driver who caused the accident also suffered grievous injuries and was taken to Rashid Hospital.
Police officials said hydraulic cutters were needed to remove the sergeant’s body from the crushed car.
Maj Gen Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, Assistant to Dubai Police Chief for Operations’ Affairs. told Gulf News that the accident happened at 10am on Wednesday. “The accident is being investigated by authorities,” Maj Gen Al Zafein said. He added, “Until the investigation concludes we cannot be completely sure who is responsible for the accident. All we know for sure is that the officer was on duty during the time of his death and he died young.”
He offered condolences to the sergeant’s family.
Maj Gen Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Dubai Police Chief, visited the scene of the accident along with Maj Gen Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant to the Dubai Police Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, Brigadier Anas Al Matroushi, Deputy Director of the General Department of Operations for Transport and Rescue, and Colonel Yousuf Al Adede, Director of Al Barsha police station.
Maj Gen Al Mazeina also offered his condolences and sympathy to the family of the deceased.
