Sharjah: Police are suspecting the involvement of a group of students in a fire that broke out in an area of the Secondary Model School for Boys in Sharjah on Tuesday.

Firefighters, who were called in, found an area of the school theatre on fire, police told Gulf News.

The students were evacuated and the blaze was extinguished. There were no reported injuries.

A crime scene has been established with police investigation continuing.

Sharjah Police, in cooperation with Ministry of Education and Sharjah Education Zone, are working together to get to the bottom of the incident.

Police said the theatre was engulfed by flames and early investigation suggested that a group of students aged 15-16 could have started the fire.

Police are also looking into the possibility that the same group could be involved in at least three other fire incidents at the school this month.

In one earlier incident, someone set fire to the school’s mosque after discharging nearby fire extinguishers to prevent school staff from putting out the fire.

Officers said the investigation is at an early stage but the incident is being treated as suspicious.
