Dubai: Dubai Customs made 512 seizures in 2014 at its Jebel Ali Customs Centres after conducting 380,000 inspections on containers screened by an advanced X-ray scanning system.
The containers were then referred for a physical inspection based on risk assessment data retrieved from a Risk Engine system.
Officials did not mention what items were seized in a media statement on Sunday.
The Jebel Ali customs operations are key in stopping illicit trade as Jebel Ali is home to the Jebel Ali port and free zone – the biggest in Dubai and one of the world’s largest.
The announcement was made in a statement regarding an inspection visit by Dubai Customs Director Ahmad Mosabah to Jebel Ali Customs Centres.
Yousuf Al Hashemi, director, Jebel Ali Customs Centres Management, gave a presentation on key challenges, achievements and initiatives by the management during 2014. The presentation noted employee satisfaction rose from 61 per cent in 2013 to 88 per cent last year.
During a subsequent field visit, Mosabah met with employees and inspectors at their working sites.
The tour started at Dubai Customs customer service centre in Jebel Ali port and moved to include the port Gates 2, 3 and 7 and the container X-ray scanning station. His visit also covered the clients service centre and inspection centre in Dubai Logistics City.
At the end of the visit, the director thanked customs staff and inspectors. “Dubai Customs welcomes any new creative ideas from our employees and will take much care to turn them into real achievements that will add value to customs work and its vital mission towards sustaining national economy and protecting society,” he said.
