Sharjah: The family of an Indian businessman who was stabbed to death with a knife in Sharjah have rejected an offer by the killer’s family to pay ‘diya’ (blood money) and insisted on his death in line with Islamic law.

Saleim Sahoo, the lawyer of the victim, told Gulf News the victim’s family informed him that they would not accept any blood money and would demand a death sentence.

The judge adjourned the trial to March.

Police had arrested the Indian man, A.K., 22, on charges of using a knife to murder his father’s friend, A.B, 53, and stolen his money.

The victim had brought the accused from his home country to work in one of  his shops in UAE at the request of the accused’s father, who was his friend.

The accused sneaked into the victim’s apartment, stabbed him several times with a knife, stole Dh90,000 and fled the scene, the court heard.

The victim was a businessman and a partner in a supermarket chain in the UAE.

Sahoo said the crime took place last year at the businessman’s home in Sharjah’s industrial area number 10.

The Criminal investigation Department at Sharjah police arrested the accused and the case was referred to the public prosecution and later to the concerned court.

The accused, the lawyer said, confessed to his crime.
