Dubai: A 29-year-old Asian man was arrested in Al Quoz last month for dealing and being in possession of around 1,000 prescription drugs.

Colonel Eid Mohammad Thani Hareb, Acting Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department at Dubai Police, said the department received information that the suspect, G.A.F.H., was operating in coordination with his brother, who was in jail in Dubai for drug-related offences.

G.A.F.H. was charged with possession and promotion of psychotropic drugs. He is also suspected of taking drugs, while his brother, A.A.F.H., 40, was charged with promoting psychotropic drugs.

Colonel Hareb said a team from the department stopped G.A.F.H. on July 20 in a car he rented to carry out his criminal activities following his brother’s orders.

G.A.F.H., Colonel Hareb said, was married and unemployed.

“Instead of trying to make a decent living, he chose to follow in his brother’s footsteps — who has a criminal record — and entered the cycle of using and dealing drugs, thinking he could evade Dubai Police.”

The prescription pills and a large stash of money were found hidden in G.A.F.H.’s bedroom in his house in Al Quoz. He admitted that the money was from drug dealing. Colonel Hareb said drug dealers got such large amounts of prescription drugs from people who smuggled them into the country, as it was impossible to obtain such large amounts in the UAE because of the new electronic system created by Dubai Police and implemented by the Ministry of Health to control prescription drugs.

He said anyone can contact the Anti-Narcotics Department on 800 400 400 or via email on dan.admin@dubaipolce.gov.ae, to report any suspicious drug-related activities.
