Abu Dhabi: A Pakistani man charged with forging official educational documents stated that he was only did so to impress his father-in-law, the Criminal Court of First Instance heard on Sunday.

The accused allegedly forged his own educational certificate after being married for just over a year to the daughter of the man he wanted to impress.

Working as a document controller at a private firm, the suspect allegedly faked an Engineering certificate from a university in his home country. Upon taking it for attestation at the Ministry of Higher Education, the offender was caught and apprehended.

The suspect has been married for just over a year and is father to an eight month-old.

The case has been adjourned until May 12.
