Sharjah: Sharjah Police are investigating the circumstances behind the death of an American man who was beaten to death with a fire extinguisher by his son.

The 50-year-old man, identified as O.Y.A., died after his 18-year-old son struck him with a fire extinguisher on his head early Saturday, The incident took place around 12am in a shop owned by the father located on Al Mahata Road here.

An argument between the father and son turned violent quickly as the two men quarrelled inside the shop, an official at Sharjah Police told Gulf News. The son lost his temper, picked up a fire extinguisher and hit his father on his head.

The father was taken to Al Kuwaiti Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The injury caused internal bleeding and fractures to his skull, according to the medical report. The victim and his son are American citizens of Sudanese origin.

Police arrested the son and took him to Al Gharb police station for questioning.

Police investigations are ongoing to find out the circumstances behind the accident.
