Abu Dhabi: A workers’ supervisor was arrested by Abu Dhabi Police on suspicion of stealing gold jewellery and other items from three houses in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi.
The suspect, of Arab nationality, is said to have committed the thefts at houses near the construction site where he was working. Some of the stolen goods including electronic devices were recovered by the police. The goods stolen were worth more than Dh100,000, according to the police.
Colonel Ojeil Ali Abdullah Al Junaibi, Director of the Western Region Police Directorate, said that the directorate had received a number of complaints about a series of thefts from houses in the area. Initial investigations found that the culprit broke into the houses when they were empty.
“An investigation team was formed to investigate the thefts and to arrest the culprit. The team eventually suspected a man, identified as A.A.M., 33, and arrested him. During a search of his residence and workplace, the police found some of the stolen items. During interrogation, the man confessed to planning and carrying out the thefts.
The Colonel Al Junaibi urged the public to ensure the safety of their valuables at home, especially when they are away.
