Fujairah: An attempted suicide by an Asian housemaid has sparked an investigation by Fujairah Police, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.
Fujairah Police are probing the circumstances leading to the maid’s attempt to take her own life in her sponsor’s house in the emirate, an official at Fujairah Police told Gulf News.
Initial investigations revealed that the housemaid attempted suicide after she was involved in a family dispute in her hometown.
The 34-year-old housemaid, who allegedly attempted suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan on Monday, has been admitted to Fujairah Hospital’s intensive care unit and is undergoing treatment.
The incident was discovered after the housemaid was heard screaming and asking for help in her room after a rope she had used to attempt suicide broke and she fell to the ground.
A case of attempted suicide has been registered against the woman for attempting suicide, which is illegal in the UAE.
The family members reported the incident to the police operations room.
A police patrol and paramedics moved to the scene of the incident and transferred the injured woman to Fujairah Hospital.
