Dubai: A man believed to be one of the country’s biggest drug dealers who was arrested last month in Sharjah was found to be hiding 30kg of hashish and more than 1,500 illegal pills, police revealed on Tuesday.

Major Gen Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant to Dubai Police Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, said the joint security team who arrested him comprised members from the anti-narcotics departments of Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi Police as well as members of the Ministry of the Interior.

Colonel Eid Mohammad Thani Hareb, Acting Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department at Dubai Police, said the suspect, K.M.K.M, was an Arab national and not an Emirati, as people thought.

He explained that the 50-year-old suspect, who worked at a real estate agency and lived in Abu Dhabi used to dress in traditional clothing and so people presumed he was Emirati.

Col Hareb said they were tipped off by a confidential source that K. M.K.M. had received a large amount of narcotics.

Investigations revealed he was in contact with outside sources suspected of numerous criminal activities, Col Hareb said.

Dubai Police passed the information onto Abu Dhabi Police, after which both teams raided his home in Abu Dhabi, but M.K.M.K managed to escape.

Dubai Police continued to track him down and was able to locate his new hiding place in Sharjah, Col Hareb said, where he was arrested by Sharjah and Dubai Police.

M.K.M.K confessed to possessing drugs and told police that he had buried them next to his house.
