Ajman: Police are hunting a six-member gang suspected of stealing Dh275,000 from a money exchange on Shaikh Rashid Bin Humaid Road in Ajman.

An official from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said the gang members, all believed to be of African origin, fled after attacking employees at the money exchange.

The police operation room received a call about the robbery at around 10.30pm on Thursday. However, the suspects managed to escape before police arrived on the scene.

Investigators identified the robbers from footage obtained from surveillance cameras installed at the exchange house.

The police said that they believed suspects had monitored the money exchange for some period of time before actually springing into action.

The police said the evidence gathered from the investigation indicated that the gang had assaulted staff at the money exchange before emptying the premises of its cash and fleeing.

Employees of the exchange told police they were unable to fend off the attackers and prevent them from taking the cash.
