Abu Dhabi: Four Asians suspected of selling 245 capsules of heroin have been arrested in two separate cases that took place in Abu Dhabi’s Musaffah and Al Mafraq areas, the Abu Dhabi Police announced on Saturday.

Colonel Dr Rashid Mohammad Borshid, Director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at the Ministry of Interior, revealed that 209 capsules were seized during the first arrest made in Al Musaffah Industrial Area in the capital with the items weighing under 2kg. The remaining 36 pills were confiscated in Al Mafraq area and the narcotics weighed about 0.5kg, Borshid stated.

The four suspects had been arrested earlier after reportedly selling the drugs to two members of the ministry’s Anti-Narcotics Department posing as purchasers of the products at a price allegedly agreed on by the two parties.

Colonel Sultan Suwayeh Al Darmaki, Chief of the Anti-Drug Section at the CID, said that the department had received reports regarding the criminal activities taking place and the suspects believed to be involved. Based on these tips, two teams were set up to pursue each case.

Col Al Darmaki added that after careful investigations and ensuring that the evidence gathered was accurate, undercover operations were set up to trap the men, arrest them and confiscate the illegal substances.

According to a police statement, the suspects confessed during questioning to owning the drugs and attempting to sell them to the ‘purchaser’.

In July, an Emirati gang leader in his 30s, who is believed to have been involved in a major drug trafficking network, was arrested in Al Ain. The Al Khaimah Operation allowed authorities to seize a large amount of hashish after raiding the suspect’s house, Gulf News had reported.

Col Borshid commended the efforts of the Anti-Narcotics team in dealing with these situations and stopping criminals from conducting their drug trading business.
