Ajman: Four Asian men have been arrested after they allegedly stole an envelope containing Dh200,000 from a man’s car, Ajman Police said.

Colonel Abdullah Saif Al Matroushi, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Ajman Police, confirmed on Sunday that the suspects snatched the envelope containing the money from inside the man’s car and ran away.

The victim withdrew the cash, which belonged to his company, from a bank in Ajman and had placed it inside an envelope in his car before driving away. A short while later, he stopped the car because he felt there was a problem with the vehicle.

While he was inspecting his vehicle, one of the suspects allegedly opened the car door and snatched the envelope of money that was left inside. The suspect quickly jumped into a waiting car and sped off.

The victim was able to note the number plate of the suspect's car and reported the incident to the police.

A police team was formed to track down the suspects and arrest them. Responding CID officers identified the suspects and their whereabouts.

A car chase ensued, with the suspects hitting several cars parked on the roadside as they attempted to escape. The chase ended with police arresting the suspects.

During questioning, the suspects admitted to their crime, police said. The case has been referred to the public prosecution.

Col Al Matroushi appealed to all community members to take care of their personal possessions and make sure to close the doors and windows of their vehicle before departure.

In an earlier interview with Gulf News, Col Al Matroushi said police have dedicated a special unit to tackle bank crimes.

Col Al Matroushi advised people to use paper transactions between banks and money exchanges in case of withdrawal of huge sums of money for their own safety.

“Be extremely cautious after you withdraw huge sums of money from banks,” he said.
