A football fan is wanted by police after he reportedly slandered a football club by posting an offensive Tweet, the Public Prosecution said on Thursday. If convicted, the accused may face jail and a fine.

The prosecution recently launched a campaign against sport extremism and severity in expressing one’s devotion to a team through harsh language or actions. Sports is considered a public activity supported by the government and should reflect the highest forms of respect, tolerance and understanding, it said. Earlier, two footballers were arrested for slandering another team’s coach in a video taken and then shared on social media.

The defendant represented in the video and the one who shot the scene were both apprehended and sent to prison.

The prosecution urged the public to refrain from producing, using, distributing or sending any comments, statements, symbols, drawings, photos, recordings, video and writing that may harm others or the general order.
