Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Police have arrested three people for allegedly selling drugs on social media.

One of the suspect goes by the name ‘Facebook Ghost’. The three accomplices of Arab nationality were allegedly luring their customers on Facebook.

Brigadier Dr Rashid Bu Rashid, director of criminal investigation department at Abu Dhabi Police, said that the accused thought that he could sell drugs anonymously on Facebook without being tracked. He was in pursuit of making money by selling drugs online whilst concealing his identity, Bu Rashid said.

He added that criminal investigation teams were capable of identifying and tracing the culprits online via similar tactics used in selling drugs.

He added that investigation teams managed to identify the ‘Facebook Ghost’ and his partners. who are all Arab nationals.

‘Facebook Ghost’ was arrested in possession of drugs and narcotics that were confiscated by the police.

Brigadier Bu Rashed pointed the importance of parents monitoring and supervising their children while using the internet and not letting their children communicate with strangers online.

He also called on the public to report any strange or illegal online communication immediately to the police.
