Dubai: Dubai Police has strongly denied rumours on social media about an Indian man who raped 90 girls in Dubai Mall and has urged the public to refrain from spreading such rumours.

On Tuesday night, Dubai Police took to Twitter to negate the rumours and called on members of the public to obtain information only from official sources.

In several tweets, they reiterated the same message asking the public to not easily fall to rumours created by some people.

They said legal action will be taken against whoever spreads such rumuors.

“Citizens, residents and visitors to the UAE have confidence that the city is a safe place for everybody to work and live in,” they tweeted.

In a following tweet, they said: “They are also confident in the advanced devices which work efficiently to ensure the safety and security of every individual and the happiness of the entire society.”

Police have previously said that rumours that could cause confusion among the public and lead to destabilisation of the country's security will be dealt with severely and the groups or individuals who initiate such kind of messages will be indicted.

They also have constantly warned the public not to interact with rumours and misinformation, images and news received via social networking sites, and not publish or retransmit them in any form to avoid legal accountability.
