Dubai: More than Dh410 million worth of cheque cases were amicably settled at Al Murraqqabat police station in 2014.

This is according to statistics released by the station.

Colonel Dr Adel Al Suwaidi, Director of Al Muraqqabat police station, said cases of 16 personal cheques and 5,757 commercial cheques were settled amicably.

In 2014, the station received 11,640 cases involving cheques and people refusing to pay.

There were 15,274 criminal reports made at the station in 2014, a 4.5 per cent drop compared with the 16,000 made in 2013.

As for traffic, the department handled 372 traffic cases and 27,244 minor accidents in their area of jurisdiction.

Col Al Suwaidi said that the station issued 13,543 good conduct certificates, 2,545 to whom it may concern certificates and 6,887 lost certificates.

Al Muraqqabat police station held six awareness campaigns, including traffic campaigns and awareness campaigns for people carrying large sums of money from banks and about stealing from parked cars.

Col Al Suwaidi also noted that their programme to curb thefts from vehicles achieved its target of not exceeding 55 such crimes in 2014, as they only had 53 reports.
