Sharjah: Police are searching for a woman who dumped a dead baby in a landfill in Al Saja’a area of Sharjah early on Tuesday, a Sharjah Police official told Gulf News.

The body of a  newborn was found wrapped in a piece of cloth and dumped in the landfill.

A police official said the body was found by municipal workers during their regular rounds of collecting waste from bins in the area.

Police said the body belong to a baby boy, aged one or two days.

The body was found around  3.50am and then taken to Al Kuwaiti  Hospital and later to the forensic laboratory for autopsy.

The case is with Al Saja’a police station, which has launched an investigation.

The Sharjah Police official said that they were cooperating with the authorities concerned to identify the mother.

The incident is the second of its kind during a week , on November 23 police found a dead baby in the same landfill.
