ABU DHABI: Abu Dhabi Customs has foiled an attempt to smuggle two kilograms of narcotics at Al Ghuwaifat border.

The drugs were recovered from the possession of an Asian driver.

Inspectors from the General Administration of Customs in Abu Dhabi arrested the driver in coordination with the Drug Enforcement Section in Al Dhafra.

The border police received a tip off from the Drug Enforcement Section about a suspicious vehicle carrying narcotics. While carrying out routine customs procedures, inspectors realised that the suspected vehicle was being followed by another vehicle driven by an Asian driver.

Suspecting a link between the two vehicles, the inspectors searched both of them, which led to recovery of 2kg of crystal meth.

The truck driver was referred to the authorities concerned to take the necessary legal action.

Mohammad Khadem Al Hameli, acting director general of the Abu Dhabi Customs, praised the inspectors for their efforts to foil the smuggling attempt.
