Sharjah: A suspected thief was arrested seconds after snatching Dh120,000 from an Indian man in Al Orouba road in Sharjah on Saturday noon.

The suspect targeted the victim when he left a money exchange outlet in Al Orouba Road in Sharjah at 12pm.

The suspect snatched the money and tried to escape .

People who witnessed the incident caught the alleged thief and tied him to a pole on the road and reported the incident to Police.

Police patrols and a team from CID rushed to the site to investigate.

Gulf News obtained video clips capturing the dramatic incident.

Brigadier Saif Mohammad Al Ziri Al Shamsi, commander-in-chief of Sharjah Police, said the Asian man was caught by community members after he tried to steal Dh120,000 from a man.

He said this was natural behaviour due to the virtue of the culture they possess.

After verifying the accuracy of the information, the Police team arrested the suspect and took him to Criminal and Investigation Department for questioning.

The suspect was unharmed.

Brig. Al Shamsi urged all community members to report any suspicious act or crime to Police as soon as possible.
