Dubai: Two British men were caught after they stole a bag containing more than Dh1.4 million from the car of two Asian men,

The victims were leaving a bank on Bani Yas street in Dubai on Sunday when one of the thieves pretended to be policeman and told the victims the car was parked illegally. Meanwhile, the other thief stole the bag and ran away.

Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Dubai Police Chief, said on Wednesday that one of the two men was Yuri Louis Harris, 53, an international thief who had stolen from multiple high-profile personalities as well as jewellery stores in a number of European countries. Harris was arrested in the UK and sentenced to seven years in prison in April 2010. His accomplice in this robbery was Steven Oliver, 49.

One the thieves was caught by the victims at the scene after another Asian man alerted them that the bag had been snatched. The second thief was caught the next morning, said Mazeina.
