Sharjah: A teeanger slipped into a coma and was listed in critical care by hospital officials after he jumped from a second-floor balcony to avoid being discovered by his girlfriend’s parents at her home in Sharjah, said Sharjah Police on Monday.

The 18-year-old Iranian boy attempted to jump to the balcony below and then to the ground around at 10pm on Friday — but his leg slipped and he dropped to the ground, said police.

A nearby witness saw the boy’s fall and reported the incident to police.

A team from Al Gharb Police station was dispatched to Maysloon area home and found the boy, who was rushed to Al Qassimi hospital by ambulance.

The boy was admitted to the ICU of the hospital and was last reported at press time in a coma.

The boy’s family was notified of police of his injuries.

Police said they will question the teenager if and when he awakens.

The young girl in question has been released from custody, police said,

The incident occurred on Friday around 10pm after police said the 15-year-old girl invited her boyfriend, who lives in Dubai, to visit her at her family’s house during the absence of her family.

The girl’s father, his wife and their 17-year-old son went to the mosque to perform prayer and when they returned, the boy jumped rather than be discovered hiding on the balcony.

The girl informed police that her boyfriend sent her a message in Persian language telling her “If your family would not go, then I would jump from the balcony even I die … I would not care.”.

The incident has been referred to public prosecution.
