Sharjah: A one-month-old baby girl was found in the early hours of Monday abandoned on the doorstep of a villa in Sharjah's Al Rahmaniyah district, according to police.

The incident was reported to the police by the villa’s owner and officers with the Al Saja’a police station took the baby to Al Qasimi Hospital around 1.30am.

Officials said the age of the girl was estimated to be one month and she was reported to be in good health.

Police are now searching for the mother.

After an all-clear and vaccinations by hospital staff, care of the baby will be assumed by the child protection committee in Sharjah.

Fourth in two months

This is the fourth abandoned baby rescued in less than two months.

On September 25, a three-month-old baby was found abandoned in Al Kuwaiti Hospital.

The baby was left on a chair at the women’s reception area in Al Kuwaiti Hospital at 4.50pm.

She was spotted by a hospital visitor who was waiting at the reception when she heard the baby’s cries. The woman reported the incident to the hospital security.

On September 20, a nine-month-old baby was found abandoned in the parking lot of Al Safeer Mall in Al Majaz, Sharjah, around noon in a plastic bag. The man who found the baby said he spotted her after hearing her cry. The baby was lying dangerously close to the front wheel of his SUV, with her umbilical cord still attached.

Similarly, a three-year-old Indian child was abandoned by his parents on September 4 at Khor Fakkan Beach. Police have yet to identify the boy’s parents.

An official from the Sharjah Children Protection Department earlier told Gulf News that the child only knows his name and could not name his parents. According to the official, the child is in good health and is being provided with all necessary medical and social care services.

The boy was reportedly told by his parents that they had gone to a restaurant and would be back to fetch him.

“My parents went to the restaurant and they will come back,” the boy had told police officers.

Last year, four mothers were imprisoned by Sharjah Courts after they were found guilty of abandoning their infants, who were born out of wedlock. They were charged with one year in jail followed by deportation with their babies.
